Hello friends and family,
We are excited to announce we are adopting! We have now completed all of our interviews, home study, training requirements, and paperwork. Hopefully by the middle of January, we will begin the exciting stage of being placed on the list of adoptive parents to be matched with a birth mother.
We would like to use this blog to update our friends and family on how the adoption process is going and also to share our hearts, our needs, and our prayer requests along the way. We both have had a heart for adoption for a long time. Even before we met, God had shown us that adoption is close to His heart (as we who are His children are adopted into His family) and He nurtured within us the desire to follow in His footsteps. As we talked about what adoption would look like for us, we decided that we would ideally like to adopt after we had a few kids of our own. But after two years of struggling with infertility, we felt God leading us to rearrange our adoption timeline to begin our family with adoption instead of waiting.
Andrew and I (Heidi) would also like to use this blog to educate others surrounding issues of infertility and also to share in the beauty and intricacy of the adoption process.
Thus far, we are in the last stages of being approved by our adoption agency, Caring For Kids, to be matched with a baby and a birth mother. There are two ways that we can be matched. First, we can be matched through the adoption agency with a birth mom that has chosen Caring for Kids to assist in finding their baby a forever home. The second option is to be matched with a birth mom through a personal contact via friends, pregnancy care agencies, family, or acquaintances and Caring for Kids will help us through the details, legal proceedings and process. Each method of being matched has its own fees and procedures, risks and reward. The agency match being the most expensive (almost two to three times more expensive) but providing the most professional knowledge, family history, and guidance in the process. The personal match, though less expensive, provides more risk in some key areas depending on the situation. Thus, we would greatly covet your prayers for wisdom in the decision making process, for God's provision along the way, and that He will be glorified in every aspect of this amazing journey.
Thank you all for your prayers and support!
To God be the glory,
Andrew & Heidi
