UPDATE: As of 4/19/2018, we are matched with a birth mama!!!!!! We are so, so, SO thankful!!!! Our story is pretty straightforward: we love adoption and want to start growing our family by adopting our first child! What started out as a seed of desire in Melissa’s heart years ago has grown into a full-fledged vision for our family. We have been privileged to be surrounded by friends who are adopted and families who have adopted, and it just becomes more beautiful to us with each story.
In March of this year, the Lord let Matt know that it was time to get moving on the adoption process. So, with both excitement and trepidation, we started researching domestic agencies. We knew foster care would not be the best option in this stage of life, given Matt’s military career, and international adoption would also not be possible for that same reason, so it was clear that domestic adoption was the way to go. By God's grace, we have been accepted to pursue adopting a baby through a domestic agency, having only been married 1 year! We are hastily unpacking remaining boxes to prepare our new home in Texas for our home study. We are hopeful to have this scheduled for sometime in November. Once our home study is complete, we will be eligible to be matched with a birth mother. This typically takes anywhere from 1-6 months. As many of you know, adoption is rather expensive and ours will probably end up costing close to $40,000. We are humbly asking friends and family to consider coming alongside our family to help us bring our baby home! We will also be saving our pennies, applying for numerous grants and brainstorming other creative ways to fundraise. If you want to contribute but finances are tight right now, would you consider one of the following ideas?
1) Host a yard sale with a few other families and donate the proceeds
2) Collect cans and bottles to take to the redemption center. (Raise your hand if you remember Melissa doing that for our wedding! This crazy bottle lady saved $250 collecting recyclables—thanks so much to all who helped!!)
3) Do you have any hidden talents that you’d like to offer to help us? The mountain of paperwork is daunting, the cost intimidating and the thought of being parents equal parts exhilarating and terrifying. But we are so sure that this is what we are supposed to be doing and that our Heavenly Father is working already on our behalf. We would be humbled and grateful beyond words if you’d consider giving to our adoption fund and if you would pray for this precious child has he or she grows in the womb. We are so grateful for you!! Matt and Melissa Sims
